The Many Health Benefits of Turmeric
July 4, 2022
Turmeric is a powerful spice; not only does it have a rich flavor, but it has several health benefits as well. The spice has been the subject of many modern studies, but it seems like Indian communities have been using it medicinally for years. And though more research is needed, turmeric has been said to help prevent heart disease, keep your brain functioning, and even fight off depression. Here are some of the health benefits you might enjoy if you add this spice to your daily diet!
Many foods can benefit your mental health, and turmeric is among them. Though more research is needed, studies have found that a daily intake of turmeric raised the serotonin and dopamine levels in mice. Turmeric can alleviate inflammation, which seems to be connected with depression. Decreasing chronic inflammation may help lower the effects of depression.
Alzheimer & Parkinson
Studies have found that curcumin can raise brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels in the brain, which can help prevent regressive diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Turmeric has been said to adjust brain chemistry and protect brain cells against toxic damage.
As we’ve mentioned earlier, turmeric can reduce inflammation, which is wonderful news for anyone who deals with the effects of osteoarthritis. Though sample sizes of the studies were too small to draw a definitive conclusion about the medicinal wonders of turmeric, some evidence showed that the spice might act like ibuprofen.
